KOTTAYAM: Alappuzha scored a six-wicket win over Thiruvananthapuram in the South Zone under-15 inter-district cricket tournament here on Thursday. Leg spinner Ashwin Sharma (six for 19) took his second five-wicket haul of the match as Alappuzha skittled out Thiruvananthapuram for 124 runs in its second innings. Chasing 48 for a win, Alappuzha reached the target for the loss of four wickets. Earlier, Alappuzha resuming at the overnight score of 129 for five added a further 83 runs to take a first innings lead of 77 runs. At St.Ephrem's HS ground, Kottyam-Kollam match ended in a draw. Rahul Dev struck an unbeaten century (125 not out) as Kollam in its second innings scored 281 for three when the play was called off. The scores: Thiruvananthapuram 135 & 124 in 39 overs (Abhishek Mohan 30, Ashwin Sharma six for 19, Mithun two for 47) lost to Alappuzha 212 in 68.5 overs (M.Mithun 83, Jithin Krishnan 49, Aditya five for 56) & 49 for four in 15.5 overs (Satyajith three for 19) Kollam 293 & 281 for three in 47 overs (Rahul Dev 125 no, Navneeth J.Jose 57, Arjun Krishnan 46, Arun 36 no) drew with Kottayam 179 in 79.1 overs (Deepak 32, Satish Madhav 26, Vishu K.Jain 26, Rahul Krishnan five for 56).
Bartholomew tournaments
At Kochi, the 61st Fr Bartholomew memorial inter-collegiate tournaments begin at the Sacred Heart College courts here on Friday. Competition for men and women in basketball and volleyball and in men's ball badminton will be conducted in this five-day event. Some top colleges of the State, including St Berchmans (Changanassery), Mar Ivanios (Thiruvananthapuram), Assumption (Changanassery) and St Xavier's (Aluva) will be seen in action.
