Farmers' welfare: BJP seeks all-party meet

HYDERABAD: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president N. Indrasena Reddy has sought an all-party meeting to discuss measures taken during the last two-and-half years for improving the lot of farmers in the State.

At a press conference on Tuesday, he accused Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy of stating `falsehood' in his recent open letter to the people. Dr. Reddy had not conveyed facts, especially with regard to election promises to jobless youth and farmers. Before the elections, Dr. Reddy had promised two lakh jobs in six months and District Selection Committees every year. Soon after swearing-in he had stated that farmer suicides would be a thing of past. However, suicides were still continuing and justice was not being rendered to the kith of victims.

The BJP leaders alleged that the Jayati Ghosh Commission recommendations were not implemented. Referring to the proposed Legislative Council, he criticised reduction in the number of graduate seats for Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy - Mahbubnagar.
