Accent on role of religious pluralism

The essence of all religions is the value system devised from logic and human co-existence. This was highlighted at a seminar on religious pluralism and peace culture organised by Gandhigram Rural University at Gandhigram on Wednesday.

In his special address, Vice-Chancellor T. Karunakaran exhorted students and research scholars to take projects rejuvenating human minds and satisfying universal justice.

"Researchers have to evolve a framework to revolve various religious conflicts."

In his special address, former Vice-Chancellor N. Markandan blamed that big powers drawn from colonialism were the root cause for religious disharmony and restlessness. "The world exists today because of religious pluralism."Inter Church Service Association Director Moses Manohar outlined the uncertainties arising out of religions in the post-modernism.

Tamil literature teaches us the way to lead a perfect life. It also instils courage, love, friendship, kindness, spirituality and motherhood, according to Tamil teacher V. Sankaralingam in his special address at a Tamil Literary Association meeting held at N.S. College of Arts and Science for Women in Theni recently.

College secretary M. Amarnath and joint secretary C. Kaliraj spoke. Later, winners of various competitions were honoured with prizes and mementoes.

The need for uplifting children was stressed by Arun Kumar Bunyan, Chief Executive, Churches Council for the Child and Youth at a national conference on social workers organised by Kodaikanal Christian College at Kodaikanal recently.

He, insisting on the constitutional guarantee of the child, focussed on the importance of children and challenges they faced.

College Dean (Students Affairs) Velammal Pitchan read a poem with an appeal to form a different world for them to enjoy.

Syed Hameedha Arts and Science College won the championship of the Alagappa University at the university level inter-collegiate badminton tournament held at Seethakathy Stadium recently.

K. Senthil Raja and M. Saravana Kumar of SHASC stood first both in the singles and doubles event.

The second year students of the Departments of Computer Science and Engineering, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, participated in the Village Placement Programme at Amaravathipudur recently. They organised medical and veterinary camps. S. Sakthivel, Head of the Department, B. Dharmalingam, Director, Rural Development and K.R. Karuppiah, village president, participated.
