Parle Cup cricket from today

HYDERABAD: The Parle Cup inter-schools U-17 cricket tournament will be organised from Oct. 6 at different grounds, according to Hyderabad Cricket Association President G. Vinod.

The 32 teams will be split into eight groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout phase. The winner will be richer by Rs. 15,000 and the runner-up will get Rs. 9,000.

Title for St. Andrew's

St. Andrew's HS scored a 21-run win over All Saints HS in the final of the Himalaya Cup inter-schools U-15 cricket tournament here. The winner was richer by Rs. 9,000 and the runner-up got Rs. 6,000. Test cricketer V.V.S. Laxman gave away the prizes while Antaash Sheikh, Manager, Corporate Communications, Himalaya Co., was the guest of honour.

The scores: St. Andrew's HS 164 for nine in 50 overs bt All Saints HS 143 in 48.4 overs (Nitin Sai 40).

Ramakrishna to lead

A.G.V. Ramakrishna will lead BSNL (AP Circle) in the All-India BSNL cricket tournament to be held in Lucknow from Oct. 9 to 16.

OU selection trials

The Osmania University will organise selection trials to pick the teams to take part in the inter-university championship in powerlifting and best physique competitions to be held in Gwalior. The trials will be held at Lal Bahadur Stadium on Oct. 6 at 8 am and 4:30 pm.

Nest Inn's triumphs

Nest Inn's team comprising R. Kannan, N.R.K. Moorthy, K.R. Venkataraman, R. Sreekrishnan, N. Niranjan and N. Nagappan won the Singareni Collieries Trophy for team of four duplicate event in the JHIC annual open bridge championship.

Vijaywada Bridge Association team of Dr. C.R. Rao, Dr. A. Narayana Rao, V. Ramachandra Rao, Ajay Yadnik, T.R. Krishna and P.B.G. Tilak finished second while Kalyani's team finished third.

Nest Inn's team also won the board-a-match for the Moldek Trophy while Galaxy's team of Dr. V. Ram Babu, Dr. V.S.R. Murthy, Dr. V. Mohan Rao and J.D. Batliwala was second while Padmaja's team was placed third.

N.R. Kirubakara Moorthy and K.R. Venkataraman won the master pairs event for the Justice Ramanjenyulu Naidu Trophy while M. Tharunaiah and R.B. Raju finished second.

Noel named director

Noel David, who is now a qualified Level II coach, has been nominated as Director (training and corporate affairs) of the M.L. Jaisimha Cricket 365 Academy, according to managing partner Vidyuth Jaisimha. Noel's first endeavour will be to organise a camp for spinners later this month.
