Power shutdown

There will no power supply between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday in Jeevanahalli Main Road, ITC Colony, MSO Colony, Purvankara Apartments, Rose Garden. This was to carrying out the work of shifting the high tension and low-tension lines, according to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd press release.

Walk

Nami India, a non-governmental organisation, will conduct a walk to commemorate World Mental Health Week on October 8. The walk will start from Lalbagh Main Gate at 9 a.m. and end at NIMHANS administrative building lawns. Those who feel about the mentally ill can take part in the walk. For details, call 26591615.

Order hailed

The Bangalore University College Teachers' Association has welcomed the Government order on placement for teachers from Lecturer to Senior Grade Lecturer and Selection Grade Lecturer, according to their length of service and participation in refresher courses. The association said the recent moves of the Government would benefit a large number of college teachers and thanked Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy. Nearly 500 part-time teachers were also being given regular appointment.

Youth festival

Yuvajanothsava, a three-day youth festival organised by Bangalore University was inaugurated on Thursday by Puttanna, MLC. Vice-Chancellor H.A. Ranganath, who presided over the function, said the university was among the few in the country with a policy for culture and sports and had reserved seats under those categories.

Club inauguration

The Bangalore branch of the Mahalakshmi Ladies Club will be inaugurated by its president Kamala Laxman. The inauguration will take place at 4.30 p.m. on Friday at the Institute of World Culture, B.P.Wadia Road, Basavanagudi.

Seminar

Governor T.N. Chaturvedi will inaugurate the National Science Seminar 2006 for schoolchildren with the theme, "Conservation of Biodiversity - Prospects and Concerns", at the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum at 9 a.m. on Friday. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy will attend the valedictory function and give away prizes and certificates to the winners.
