BANGALORE: Unidentified persons took away two bags, one with a pistol and bullets and another with a laptop estimated at Rs. 75,000 from a car parked outside a bank on Mahatma Gandhi Road in the Ulsoor police station limits on Thursday afternoon. At about 1.30 p.m., the complainant, Arora, and his wife had come in a car to the bank. They had left the two bags inside the car and stepped inside the bank for cash withdrawal. The car driver, on spotting an accident involving a BMTC bus and a van, rushed to see what was the commotion. By the time the driver returned, the culprits had escaped with the two bags from the unattended car. The pistol was estimated at Rs. 25,000, the police said.
Chain snatched
A 65-year-old woman was relieved of her 30 gm gold chain at Kathriguppe in Banashankari police station limits on Thursday. The victim had gone for a walk, when two men accosted her in a motorcycle and snatched away the gold chain. She shouted for help, but there was nobody in the isolated location. The incident took place at about 7.45 p.m., according to the police.
Suicide
A 32-year-old newly married woman, Sunita, allegedly committed suicide by hanging at her house in Vidyaranyapura police station limits on Thursday night. The police said Sunita was married to Gopala Rao about a month ago. Mr. Rao was scheduled to leave for Australia on Friday. A case of unnatural death had been registered at the Vidyaranyapura police station.
Accident
A lorry cleaner died on the spot after he fell off the moving truck on Ring Road in Frazer Town police station limits on Thursday evening. After the victim fell on the road, he was caught under the wheels of another truck, the police said. The Frazer Town police have taken up a case.
Contractor booked
Following protests by a few people of Bihar origin, the Jeevanbimanagar police on Thursday registered a case of murder against a building contractor. The police had earlier registered a case of suicide in the incident. Rajendra Thakur, a carpenter, allegedly committed suicide on the Ayudha Puja day at the godown of contractor Ravichandran. He was working for the contractor. As the police registered a case of unnatural death, enraged companions of Thakur staged a protest on Thursday. The police inspector S. Prakash told The Hindu that the carpenter allegedly committed suicide after being asked by the contractor to return the advance money of Rs. 40,000.
Body inside train
The body of Sri Rajan (58) was found in the general compartment of Island Express that arrived in the City Railway Station early this morning. Rajan was a native of Kerala.
