Protest against spread of dengue

NEW DELHI: The Delhi-unit of Loktantrik Samajwadi Party burnt effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at Jantar Mantar here to protest against the failure of Union and State Governments in controlling and preventing dengue in the Capital and other parts of the country. President of the Delhi-unit of the party Gauri Shankar Sharma said that dengue has spread throughout the country and is now beyond the control of States as well as Union Government.

IGNOU to offer insurance courses

NEW DELHI: A Memorandum of Collaboration was signed in the Capital between Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Insurance Institute of India (III), Mumbai.

The Memorandum of Collaboration will lay the foundation for cooperation and joint action between IGNOU and III, Mumbai, to develop and offer joint degree, diploma and doctoral programmes in the field of both life and general insurance, health insurance, risk management, actuarial science and any subject having bearing on the subject of insurance including research in insurance.

Spiritual talk organised

NEW DELHI: A spiritual talk and initiation by Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission head Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj was organised at Pushp Bhawan Grounds in Sheikh Sarai here over the weekend. Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri lauded the contributions of Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj in unifying science and spirituality to facilitate the world community towards an age of right understanding, right living and lasting peace on earth.

In his address, Sant Rajinder Singhji Maharaj said, "We try to understand what is the purpose of being born as a human on earth. The realised ones direct our attention to the absolute truth. We tried to do this by understanding nature through science. There is a hypothesis, and this is tested by experimentation to ascertain its truth or discover new knowledge."

Debate on JP's philosophy

NEW DELHI: On the eve of 104th birth anniversary of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, a national debate on his philosophy will be held at Rajendra Bhawan auditorium here on Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg on October 11. Organised by Loknayak Jayaprakash International Studies Centre, former Tamil Nadu Governor B.N. Singh, former Election Commissioner G.V.G. Krishnamurty and prominent Gandhian Ramchandra Rahi are likely to participate.
