Woman dies in AIIMS

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old woman, whose nephew is being treated for dengue at All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), was fatally injured when some bricks fell on her from the eighth floor of an under-construction building inside the premises on Sunday.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 5-30 p.m. when Bindu came to see her nephew and was standing near an under construction building where her husband, Sanjay, had been working as a labourer.

As the bricks fell on her from a considerable height, Bindu sustained serious head injuries and began bleeding profusely. Her relatives rushed her to the Emergency Ward of the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries soon.

A case of negligence has been registered by the South Delhi police but no one has been arrested so far.

`Robbers' arrested

NEW DELHI: Five people allegedly planning to commit robbery were arrested at Welcome Colony in North-East Delhi on Saturday. The police claim to have recovered two country-made firearms from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that some criminals would gather behind a petrol pump at Welcome Colony to plan a robbery, the police mounted a raid and arrested five people. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Ashlaq, Intezar, Naushad, Prem Pal and Nayeem. They allegedly revealed that they were planning to target a bus. At their instance, the police have launched a hunt for the other accomplices.

Juvenile held

NEW DELHI: A juvenile allegedly involved in cases of auto-theft was arrested near Pragati Maidan at Mandir Marg in New Delhi on Saturday. Three stolen motorcycles have been recovered at his instance.

The accused, a Class XI student, was riding a stolen motorcycle when he was intercepted at the Matka Peer police picket. During interrogation, he allegedly disclosed that he had stolen the motorcycle from Mandir Marg last month and was planning to dispose it of in North-East Delhi.

He allegedly confessed to having stolen two more motorcycles, which he had parked in the parking lot of Lady Hardinge Medical College to evade detection. The police recovered the two motorcycles.

In another case, two alleged auto-lifers, Naresh and Narender Kumar, were arrested at Shahdara in North-East Delhi on Saturday. Two stolen motorcycles were recovered from their possession. They were arrested by the Anti Auto-theft Squad when they were moving on stolen motorcycles. Investigations revealed that the motorcycles had been stolen from Bhajanpura and Gandhi Nagar.
