ALAPPUZHA: A people's movement for the eradication of mosquitoes would be launched in the 1,113 grama panchayat wards and 172 municipal wards in the district on October 13 to make the district garbage free and to eradicate mosquitoes, Alappuzha district panchayat president R. Nazar and District Collector K.R. Viswambharan have said. Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac would inaugurate the cleaning of the Alappuzha-Cherthala canal as a part of the movement. Mr. Nazar said more than 5,000 cleaning squads would take part in the mass movement. The Ministers from the district, MLAs, MPs and representatives of people in various local bodies would provide leadership to the cleaning activities, said Mr. Nazar. He said the squads would include workers of Kudubasree mission, self-help groups, members of the NCC and the NSS.
