HYDERABAD: A woman labourer K. Annapoornamma, 40, died on Saturday when she fell down from a five-storeyed building under construction at Yadagirinagar of Jubilee Hills. The victim was carrying a container on her head when her sari got stuck to an iron rod jutting out from the wall on third floor. "Death was instant," Jubilee Hills Inspector M. Srinivas said. Her co-workers in the area staged a sit-in at the building demanding compensation for the victim's family. The agitation continued for four hours till Khairatabad MLA P. Janardhan Reddy negotiated with the building owner Krishna to pay Rs. 1.5 lakh compensation to the victim's kin. He gave a cheque of Rs. 50,000 on the spot and assured to pay the remaining amount soon. Mr. Reddy said he would ensure the labourer's family was allotted a house by the Government and given benefits under Apathbandhu scheme also.
