Two engineering students drowned?

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two engineering students from the city were feared dead when they were washed away in Chapparai waterfalls near Araku Valley on Sunday.

Srikant, 21, and Sandeep, 23, third year IT students from Gayatri Engineering College, went on a picnic along with six other students on four bikes. Srikant and Sandeep fell into the waterfalls accidentally.

ADILABAD: The woman naxalite killed in Saturday's encounter near Mamidiguda was identified by the police as Portheti Laxmi alias Padmakka, a district committee member, who carried a reward of Rs. 3 lakhs on her head. She was the wife of Chippakurthi Ravi, commander of Mangi dalam. She had joined the movement 12 years ago and was involved in 17 cases including eight murders. - Staff Reporter

NALGONDA: Eight persons belonging revolutionary parties were arrested and four weapons were recovered from them.

Maoist surrenders

Srikakulam: Secretary of the Kondabaridi Area Committee of the CPI (Maoist) Prakash alias Kiran alias Kune Kondandam (26) surrendered at the office of SP Manish Kumar Sinha here on Sunday. Prakash had joined the movement in 1996 and participated in several offences including the attack on TDP leader and Srikakulam MP Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu in 1994. He carried a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on his head. - Special Correspondent

Farmer electrocuted

Sangareddy: Thirty-five-year-old Ramulu of Singatam village in Gajwel mandal was electrocuted on Sunday while trying to switch off the pump in his farm.

According to the police Ramulu was watering his field when he touched the wires connected to the starter that was lying on the wet ground. - Staff Reporter

Charred to death

NIZAMABAD: An octogenarian woman, Lakshmi Bai of Choutupally village under Kammarpally police station limits, was burnt alive following a electrical short circuit at her house late on Saturday night.

According to information reaching here, she was alone in the house when the accident occurred.
