P. Rajkrishnan

CHENNAI : The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions Pvt. Ltd., (ZAK) an exhibition organiser, recently to collaborate in arranging trade fairs in Singapore.

Catherine McNabb, Director, Strategic Clusters, (I division), STB, told The Hindu that Singapore was a "major business hub" which could serve as a "catalyst for business exchange" with India, which the STB considered a "prime target market." Ms. McNabb said the Singapore Government was "transparent and friendly," adding that the country witnessed the fifth largest number of Indian visitors globally.

Syed Zakir Ahmed, Managing Director, ZAK, said as per the contract, which he termed a "two-way agreement," the company would stage at least four annual trade fairs in Singapore over three years. `Salaam India,' scheduled in Singapore from August 15-19, 2007, would be a major arena for India's consumer and industrial products, he said.
