ANANTAPUR: A research associate in the Department of Botany in Sri Krishnadevaraya University, S. Karuppuswamy, has been awarded a gold medal and Young Botanist 2006 award by the Indian Botanical Society.

He is doing research on conversion of rare and endangered plant species through tissue culture technology.
