Bharath betters his own record

Mysore: S. Bharath, a final year B. Sc student of Yuvaraja's College, Mysore, an all-India inter-university gold medallist in the 400m in 2005-06, created a new meet record in the 400m with a timing of 49.11s erasing his own mark of 49.23s set in 2005-06, on the concluding day of the 78th Mysore University Inter-collegiate athletic championship at the University Oval grounds here on Wednesday.

C. Chandrakumar of Post Graduate Sports Council, Manasagangothri, with 26 points bagged the Individual championship title in the men's section. P.S. Shruthi of Marimallappa's College, Mysore with 28 points won the individual championship in the women's section.

The Post Graduate Sports Council, Manasagangothri, Mysore, bagged the team championship title in the men's section with 82 points, while Teresian College for Women, Mysore, annexed the team championship title in the women's section with 116 points.

The prizes were given away by M.P. Swamy, Dep. Director, Youth Services and Sports, Govt. of Karnataka.

The results: (winners only): Men: Half Marathon: T. Ananda (DBCC, Mysore), 1hr: 24.34s; Long jump: M. Vijayashankar (University Evening College, Mysore). 6.37m; 400m: S. Bharath (YCM, Mysore) 49.11s (NMR, OR: S. Bharath, 49.23s, 2005-06); Shot put: C. Chandrakumar (PGSC), 11.98m; 1500m: S. Channappa (PGSC), 4:21.27s; Decathlon: C. Chandrakumar (PGSC), 4434 points; 4x100m Relay: PGSC, 46.23s.

Individual champion: C. Chandrakumar (PGSC, Mysore-26 points).

Team championship: Post Graduate Sports Council, Manasagangothri, Mysore-82 points.

Women: Discus: A.F. Vanitha (Teresian College), 27.66m; 1500m: G.L. Sunitha (Marimallappa's College, Mysore), 5:09.57s; 400m: S. Shobha (Teresian College), 60.02s; Long jump: P.S. Shruthi (Marimallappa's College), 5.05m; 4x100m Relay: Teresian College, 56.68s.

Individual champion: P.S. Shruthi: Marimallappa's College, Mysore-28 points.
