Youth from State held on charge of killing boy

THRISSUR: Sammayya, 20, from Begda in Warangal in Andhra Pradesh has been arrested on the charge of sexually abusing a 10-year old boy, a relative of the accused, and murdering him. The body was found in a rubber plantation at Mulayam on October 3. According to the police, Sammayya had taken the boy to the rubber plantation and strangld him to death. - Staff Reporter

Grant for rural family

Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday said that his Government was committed to providing an additional Rs.8,000 for a year to a rural family through assured employment. Man burnt alive

KURNOOL: An autorickshaw driver George was burnt alive at Weaker Sections' Colony in the city on Thursday.

Valluri passes away

HYDERABAD: Veteran Communist leader Valluri Gangadhara Rao, 76, died at Chandra Rajeswara Rao Foundation's old-age home here on Thursday.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter. A native of Guntur district, Valluri joined the Communist movement in 1948. - Special Correspondent

SBH branch opened

KURNOOL: Sapratik Chatterjee, General Manager of the State Bank of Hyderabad, formally opened the new branch of the bank at Krishna Nagar in the city on Thursday. This would be the fourth branch in the city.

He said the bank had seven branches in the district. Soon, the bank would have a regional office at Kurnool and new branches at Nandyal, Dhone and Yemmiganur. Deputy General Manager Narasimha Reddy and others were present.

Ryots want onion prices stabilised

KURNOOL: Onion farmers led by CPI(M) staged a demonstration here on Thursday urging the Government to launch price support operations. CPI(M) secretary T. Shadrak said the prices of onion fell to Rs. 200 a quintal.

He said the Government should take immediate steps to shore up the prices by purchasing onion through the State Trading Corporation.

Mayor releases fish

KADAPA: As part of anti-malarial operations Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy released Gambusia fish into Buggavanka stream on Thursday.

Seventy thousand Gambusia fish were procured and would be released into select water storage ponds in Kadapa town, the Mayor said. Municipal Commissioner S. Aleem Basha, Health Officer Umamaheswar, sanitary inspectors and municipal corporators took part. — Staff Reporter

Additional loan

VIJAYAWADA: District Collector Navin Mittal on Thursday said banks would provide an additional loan of Rs.6,000 to Rs.10,000 through self-help groups for each beneficiary of housing under Indiramma scheme.

Chairing a meeting with officials and bankers, Mr. Mittal called for preparation of a list of beneficiaries, copies of resolutions passed by the self-help groups recommending additional loan and other relevant details by October 25. - Staff Reporter

RIAD to benefit

3,812 villages

Rajahmundry: Remote and Interior Areas Development programme, launched by the government to pay special attention to development in extremist- affected villages in the State, aims at increasing the per capita income of rural individual or each family.

A high-power committee, headed by former minister T. Purushothama Rao, is already on the job and identified 3,812 villages in 316 mandals for implementation of the project. - Staff Reporter

mahila samakhya

VIZIANAGARAM: In a bid to empower tribal youth and supply quality power to consumers in the agency, the APTransco entered into an agreement with IKP Mahila Mandal Samakhya on Wednesday.

Superintending Engineer (Operations) B. Ramesh Prasad said the samakhya would appoint 10 trained ITI candidates on a monthly honorarium for maintenance of 11 KV G.L. Puram - Mondemkallu feeder. The Transco would pay Rs.50,000 to the samakhya for maintenance. - Correspondent
