HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah on Wednesday announced that the World Bank had given its nod for aid of Rs. 3,200 crore to modernise Nagarjunasagar canals and take up a project to construct several minor dams at a time. He said Rs. 2,200 crore of this would be earmarked for modernisation of Nagarjunasagar canals and Rs. 1,000 crore for minor dams. Mr. Lakshmaiah told reporters that the Bank did not attach any conditionalities while sanctioning the aid. He said the World Bank officials led by its Managing Director, Graeme Wheeler, visited several irrigation projects under construction. They expressed surprise over the execution of several projects simultaneously.
