VISAKHAPATNAM: Top leader of CPI (ML) Sudhakar reportedly escaped the police dragnet a couple of days ago. The police had encircled the hill on which Sudhakar was reportedly hiding since October 17.

No arms dumps found: naxals

ONGOLE: CPI (Maoist) Nallamala East Area committee secretary, Sagar, has denied police claims that they had recovered naxal arms dumps in Nallamala forest area with the help of Tech Madhu. Talking to some journalists over telephone on Wednesday, Mr. Sagar said the Maoists had buried some weapons not fit for use four years ago. The police were now recovering such dumps. - Special Correspondent

Proof of residence not required

HYDERABAD: Chief Electoral Officer V. Bhaskar has clarified that there was no need to submit proof of residence along with applications for enrolment in graduate and teacher constituencies for election to the State Legislative Council. - Special Correspondent

Srikakulam: Tripurana Venkataratnam, senior TDP leader and former Minister, resigned from the party on Wednesday. Ryot attempts suicide

GUNTUR: A 35-year-old chilli farmer attempted suicide on Wednesday at Nehrunagar Thanda of Bollapalli mandal of Guntur district reportedly due to lack of irrigation facility for his crop. Vodise Pattabhi Nayak allegedly doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire on Wednesday. The farmer is being treated for 95 per cent burns. - Staff Reporter

Bank employees to go on nation-wide strike

ANANTAPUR: The district bank employees' coordination committee under the aegis of United Forum of Bank Unions has urged the Government to protect their rights achieved through agitations. It has also asked the employees of all banks to participate in the nationwide strike on October 27, in support of their demands.

Madanapalle: A mega Lok Adalat will be conducted on October 28 in the premises of Madanapalle sub-court premises said Chaiman of Mandal Legal Services Committee who is also second Additional District Judge P.Ramesh Babu. Bank cases of Madanapalle, C.T.M., Kurabalakota, Vayalpad, Molakalacheruvu will be dealt with in the premises of Second A.D.J. Court for which Senior Civil Judge N.Ramalinga Reddy will preside.-Correspondent

`Rytu jathas'

ELURU: The CPI-affiliated Andhra Pradesh Rytu Sangham will organise `rytu jathas' in West Godavari district on October 27 seeking solution to the problems faced by farmers, according to its district president Penmatsa Subba Raju.

The `jathas' will cover Veeravasaram, Bhimavaram, Undi, Kassa Pentapadu, Tadepalligudem, Nallajarla and Denduluru and stage a demonstration at Eluru. The programme will highlight the demands for nine-hour power supply and waiver of agricultural credit ranging up to Rs. 1 lakh as a measure to check suicide tendency among farmers.-Staff Reporter

VIZIANAGARAM: Balijipeta, Kurupam, Parvathipuram and Bobbili in Vizianagaram circle and Meliaputti, Vajrapukotturu, Sompeta and Tekkali in Srikakulam circle were rated as toppers in the overall performance in energy loss reduction, revenue collection, percentage of energy metered sales, distribution transformers failure etc. by Chairman and Managing Director of APEPDCL Praveen Prakash at a review meeting at ZP meeting hall on Tuesday. - Correspondent

Outlet for rural products opened

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam inaugurated the `Grameena Kalanjali', the outlet for rural products under the District Rural Industries Project (DRIP) in the Nokalamma temple street here on Wednesday.

The Collector said the aim of the scheme was to provide marketing avenues to rural products of the beneficiaries under PMRY, RYS, SHG and REGP under a single roof extending the necessary support. He said the NABARD would extend the financial assistance.

Rotary award

Rajahmundry: The Rotary Club has given away `Man of the Year' award to PK Suri, President, AP Paper Mills Limited, for "his outstanding services to society". Andhra Sugars chairman Mullapudi Harichandra Prasad handed over the award to Mr. Suri at a function organised in Annam Rotary hall. The programme was attended by Ganni Bhaskar rao, Tummidi Ramkumar and Pattapagulu Anantharamalakshmi.
