BANGALORE: A man barged into a house in J.P. Nagar police station limits on Tuesday evening and robbed a lonely housewife of Rs. 10,000 in cash and gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 1 lakh after tying her to a chair. The police said that around 6 p.m., a man aged 25 came to businessman Sidde Gowda's house on Rajiv Gandhi Road in Jaraganahalli. He asked Sidde Gowda's wife Rathnamma whether her husband was at home. After she told him that her husband was at his shop, the stranger went away. But he returned 30 minutes later and asked whether Mr. Gowda has come home. When Rathnamma told him that her husband had not yet come home, the stranger asked her for a glass of water. When Rathnamma went inside the house to get him water, the stranger barged in and closed the door. He allegedly threatened Rathnamma with a knife and tied her to a chair. He robbed her of her gold ornaments and looted cash and other jewellery from a safe, the police said. The incident came to light around 7 p.m. when Rathnamma's son returned home from tuitions. The J.P. Nagar police have registered a case.
Factory, house burgled
Burglars struck at electrical appliances manufacturing unit at Kodigehalli in Hebbal police station limits on Tuesday night and made away with transformers estimated at Rs. 1 lakh. The incident came to light around 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday when the employees came to work. On a complaint by the director of the factory, Subbaraju, the Hebbal police have registered a case. Thieves broke into a private company employee's house in MICO Layout police station limits and took away Rs. 5,000 in cash, gold ornaments, silver articles and a laptop. The police said the incident took place between October 20 and 24 at Manmohan's house at Saraswathi Layout on Bannerghatta Road when he had been to Mangalore for celebrating Deepavali. The MICO Layout police have registered a case and are investigating.
Suicide
A man, aged around 35, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a commercial complex in Sriramapuram police station limits. The police said that on Wednesday morning, the man's body was found hanging from a hook in the staircase of the Tukaram complex on Pampa Mahakavi Road. The body has been kept at the Victoria Hospital mortuary. The Srirampuram police have registered a case.
