Women's groups hail DV Act

NEW DELHI: Describing enactment of the Domestic Violence Act as a perfect Diwali and Id gift for women in the country, women's groups on Thursday said they hoped the law would protect their rights and prevent victimisation in homes.

They, however, stressed there should not be any laxity in implementation of the law which came into effect on Thursday.

``This is a historic law. This is a Diwali and Id gift for women. '' NCW Chairperson Girija Vyas told PTI.
