ANANTAPUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday launched a signature campaign against the hike in property tax in urban areas. The campaign began in the first division of Anantapur Municipal Corporation. Party activists collected signatures from the people in First Road, TTD Kalyanamandapam, Railway Gate and Ramachandra Nagar areas. Party leader K.A. Ratnaiah said the State Government issued GOs 467 and 511 hiking the property tax by 75 per cent and 150 per cent for residential and commercial premises. At present the civic body was collecting Rs. 6.38 crores property tax from 32,767 residential and 12,462 commercial premises and 1,581 cottage industries. The hike would burden people by another Rs. 5 crores.
