Bangalore: A police team from Bangalore has left for Mysore to investigate whether the two suspected Al-Badr terrorists arrested there were connected with the terrorist attack on the Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) here on December 28, 2005.

Sources in the Bangalore police said that the officers who had gone to Mysore would interrogate the alleged terrorists on their possible links with Laksher-e-Taiba, which had carried out the attack at the IISc. A scientist was killed and four others were injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police B.S. Sial told presspersons here on Friday that it was too early for him to say whether the arrested militants were linked to the IISc. attack. "Al-Badr has close contacts with LeT and therefore we cannot rule out any possibilities at this juncture," he said.

The Karnataka police were seeking the assistance of Intelligence Bureau to unearth the Al-Badr network in the State. Meanwhile, a senior police officer, who visited Jammu and Kashmir after the IISc. attack, told The Hindu that they were aware that Al-Badr was operating in the State though they had no specific information about its activities. He suspected that the outfit had its presence, its cadre across the State.

Mr. Sial said the arrests made in Mysore indicated that Al-Badr was trying to gain ground in the State. The main intention of the terrorist outfits was to disturb peace in Karnataka, particularly Bangalore, which is attracting huge foreign investments.
