CPI(M) wins chairman post in Nagapattinam

CPI candidates became heads of eight the panchayat unions Also wins chairmanship of four panchayat unions

CHENNAI: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate G. Jayaraman has been elected chairman of the Nagapattinam district panchayat.

Candidates of the party bagged the post of chairpersons in Kovilpatti, Palani, Chidambaram and Thiruvottiyur municipalities.

The CPI (M) candidates won the chairmanship of panchayat unions of Gujiliamparai in Dindigul district and Keezhaiyur, Kilvelur and Thalaignayiru in Nagapattinam district.

Election for the post of president of the town panchayats of Idaikadu, Villukkuri and Bagodu in Kanyakumari district, Harvey Patti in Madurai district, Uthukuli in Erode district, Peralam in Tiruvarur district and Chinnavedampatti in Coimbatore district had also gone in favour of the CPI (M), a party release said.

Communist Party of India candidate M.S. Kamalavadhanam was elected as chairman of the Tiruvarur district panchayat.

The party nominee won the chairmanship of the Periya Semur third grade municipality.

The CPI candidates became heads of the panchayat unions of Tiruthuraipoondi, Kottur, Mannargudi, Pennagaram, Manamadurai, Watrap, Perundurai and Gudalur.

The party nominees had been elected as presidents of six town panchayats — Kannampalayam, Kelamangalam, Sevilimedu, Watrap, Nangavaram and Sethur.
