IAS officers to monitor relief work

Chennai: Twelve IAS officers have been allotted the task of overseeing flood control and relief measures in the Corporation zones in Chennai.

The decision was taken after a top-level meeting chaired by Local Administration Minister M. K. Stalin on Saturday.

T. N. Ramanathan (9444191709) will oversee operations from the Chennai Corporation headquarters.

A Chennai Corporation release said Mr. Stalin had directed various departments to be prepared for contingencies. The Public Works Department would have to be ready with sand bags in case of breaching of lakes. Desilting would be carried out in Cooum, Adyar and Virugambakkam, Otteri and Buckingham canals.

The Highways Department has been asked to keep roads repaired to facilitate traffic flow. Health officials would monitor the outbreak of water-borne diseases.
