Special Correspondent

Bangalore: It is difficult to find an educational institution giving equal importance to technology research and studies in the fine arts. The head of one such institution from overseas is visiting Bangalore next week.

Carnegie Mellon University president Jared L. Cohon will visit the Whitefield campus of iGate Global Solutions and interact with the staff on October 31.

Dr. Cohon will speak on "Innovation for growth", which knowledge industries were focusing on. He will share Carnegie Mellon's focus on innovative programmes and a vision for the future.

It is a private research university with an unusual mix of programmes in computer science, robotics, engineering, the sciences, business, public policy, fine arts and the humanities.

The Bangalore visit is part of Dr. Cohan's Europe and Asia tour. He has been president of the university since 1997. He came to Carnegie Mellon from Yale University, where he was Dean of the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. He has a doctorate in civil engineering from Masschusetts Institute of Technology.

He is considered an authority on environmental and water resource systems analysis.
