Over 4,000 pirated CDs of Tamil films seized

CHENNAI: Over 4,000 pirated CDs — all Tamil films released during Deepavali — were seized and five persons remanded to judicial custody in a raid conducted by the police Video Piracy Wing.

According to police, acting on a tip off, the video piracy wing headed by ADGP Narendar Pal Singh conducted raids in the past two days on outlets in Burma Bazaar, Choolaimedu, Ritchie Street, Kodambakkam, China Bazaar, Trustpuram and Anna Nagar among other places in the city. They seized 4,010 pirated CDs valued at over Rs. three lakh. The names of the arrested were given as Dawood Ibrahim (28) Triplicane, Prabhu (26) of Sivagangai district, Mohammed (30) of Netaji Nagar, Shahul Hameed (28) of Saidapet and Thameem Anzari (20) of Tondiarpet. The police are on the look out for another accused Gani.

Domestic violence

The city police registered a case of domestic violence against Sivakumar (29), of Anchappan Street, Choolaimedu here on Monday. Police said that following a complaint from Sivakumar's wife Charumathi, the All Women Police Station had registered a case of domestic violence. Charumathi alleged that Sivakumar demanded dowry and also abused girl students who came for tuition.
