Bangalore: Several leaders of various political parties will felicitate Shamanur Shivashankarappa, MLA, who is also an industrialist, educationist and philanthropist, here on Thursday on the occasion of his 75th birthday. Briefing presspersons here on Tuesday, H. Hanumanthappa, former Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Board and working president of the Shamanur Shivashankarappa Felicitation Committee, said former Supreme Court judge Shivaraj V. Patil would inaugurate the celebrations. Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy would release a commemorative volume. Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa would present the felicitation plaque. The former Speaker and Minister K.H. Ranganath would release a book on Mr. Shivashankarappa. The former Railway Minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief would felicitate the couple, he said. KPCC president M. Mallikarjuna Kharge, the former Kannada Sahitya Parishat president G.S. Siddalingaiah and Leaders of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly and Council, N. Dharam Singh and H.K. Patil respectively would participate. Mr. Shivashankarappa, he said, had filled the vacuum caused by the closure of textile mills in Davangere with his chain of educational institutions, rice and sugar mills and super-speciality hospitals. The former MP V.S. Krishna Iyer and Chief Executive Officer of the Bangalore Urban Zilla Panchayat C. Somashekar were present.
