Deadline for army veterans extended

CHENNAI: The office for the welfare of veterans of the armed forces in the city at Saidapet has extended the deadline for those who failed to renew their registration for employment in 2004 and 2005.

They may renew their registration till January 10, 2007. Requests after this date will not be entertained.

Workshop for

maths teachers

The Srinivasa Ramanujan Academy of Maths Talent will be arranging a one-day workshop in November for maths teachers handling classes six to eight. They will be taught the latest techniques of teaching mathematics to young children to create interest and help slow learners. Thirty teachers will be enrolled.

Diabetes camp

The Kanchi Kamakoti Sankara Hospital, Perumbakkam will be extending the diabetes camp on its premises till November 15. Several investigations are being performed at a subsidised rate of Rs. 1100. . Contact 2277 7160 or 94440 34347 for details.

Customer meet at cooperative bank

The Tamilnadu State Apex Co-operative Bank Ltd, Villivakkam branch, organised a customer meet on Thursday evening. Customers recommended that arrangements be made for pension disbursement through the TNSC Bank and to install an ATM at the branch.

Two killed in

road accident

Two persons including a four-year-old girl were killed in a road accident under Puzhal police station limits here on Monday night. Police said that a speeding lorry hit a share autorickshaw carrying a group returning from Puzhal to Washermenpet after attending a family function. Sairabanu (40) and her niece Nisha Begum (4) died on the spot, and their relatives Saleema Beevi, Serina Banu, Mohammed Ghouse Basha, and share-auto driver Shanmugam among others were injured. The injured are being treated at Stanley Medical College, Hospital.

Nominated to older persons council

The State president of the Tamil Nadu Senior Citizens and Pensioners Welfare Association, Siva Somanathan has been nominated as member of the National Council of Older Persons by the Government of India. Applications are invited from senior citizens for membership in the association. Contact the state general secretary at 2835 0809 for details.

The fourth state level conference of the association is scheduled to be held in the city on December 17.
