Telecom firm employees arrested on fraud charges

CHENNAI : Police arrested three employees of Bharti Airtel Telecom Limited on Tuesday on charges of cheating the company to earn incentives and salary hikes.

The Assistant Commissioner of the Central Crime Branch police (CCB) said that G.Vythianathan (35), Narayanan (39) and Deepak Raj (25) were arrested on a complaint filed by legal department of the telecom company.

The three had allegedly led the company to believe they had collected pending bill dues of Rs.12 crore to gain incentives and salary hikes.

Judicial custody

Police added that the three had also indiscriminately used their "discretionary powers" to waive pending dues on large outstanding bills. They were produced before the Saidapet Metropolitan Magistrate and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.

Police have filed charges against them under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant), 477A (Fraudulent cancellation, destruction, etc., of will, authority to adopt, or valuable security) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
