The Postgraduate Programme in Software Enterprise Management (PGSEM), offered by the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, is specifically designed to meet the needs of professionals working in the software and information technology industry. The programme is geared to enable a participant to acquire a postgraduate diploma while continuing to work, and seeks to transform executives/professionals with strong technical knowledge to become business leaders with global perspective. The curriculum, according to IIMB director Prakash G. Apte, is continuously reviewed and updated, based on the changing demands of the industry and alumni feedback. The current batch of PGSEM that commenced in June 2006 has 147 students. They include 32 students who are undergoing the programme in a distributed classroom mode, at the new campus in Chennai, built exclusively for IIMB by Infosys. Encouraged by the success of this experiment, IIMB has proposed to extend the PGSEM to Hyderabad with the support of Wipro Technologies. This year, 19 PGSEM students are participating in the student exchange programme, taking courses in universities across the world, according to Dr. Apte. The two-year Postgraduate Programme in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) is another course offered by IIMB. It aims at reorienting the mindsets of the participants to help them enhance their performance as policy designers and managers of public systems.
