Yamiganipalli MPTC election put off

HYDERABAD: The State Election Commission on Saturday suspended the election process to Yamiganipalli Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) in Gudupalli mandal of Chittoor district. SEC Secretary G. N. Rao in a press release issued here directed Chittoor Collector and the Returning Office to comply with the order. The Commissioner of Panchayat Raj, who is the election authority, has been asked to enquire into the allegations made in a writ petition filed by C. Saroja alleging that the Collector had sanctioned 82 houses under the Indira Awas Yojana after the election notification was issued on October 20. The Commission said that prima facie it was evident that there was violation of model code of conduct. — Special Correspondent

Aggrieved woman resorts to protest

KURNOOL: A married woman resorted to protest alleging harassment by her husband here on Saturday. According to the victim, she was allegedly molested by a married person, Timmappa, a few months ago, which led to her marriage with him as was decided by elders. SFI stages protest

KURNOOL: An Intermediate student committed suicide by consuming pesticide at SAP camp here on Friday night. According to reports, A. Srikant took the extreme as he was admonished by his mother for excessive use of mobile phone. ADILABAD: Adilabad traffic police on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs. 200 each on 20 autorickshaws and five jeep drivers who were obstructing traffic while unloading the vegetables near the main vegetable market. -Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission on Saturday said the revised list of candidates of Group I services who have qualified for interview as per orders of the High Court and Supreme Court has been displayed on the notice board. V-Cs appointed

HYDERABAD: Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Saturday appointed Vice-Chancellors of Telangana, Adikavi Nannaya and Yogi Vemana Universities for three years. They are Kashi Ram, K. Nirupa Rani and A.Ramachandra Reddy respectively. While Prof. Kashi Ram is a retired Principal of Nizam College, Prof. Rani is a professor of English, Andhra University. HYDERABAD: A four-day international conference on `Hydrology and watershed management', with focus on improving water productivity in agriculture will be organised by the Centre for Water Resources of the JNTU here from December 5. Two children drowned

VISAKHAPATNAM: Two children were drowned when they fell into an abandoned quarry at Vepagunta in the city on Saturday.

M. Saikumar, 7, and his sister Soujanya, 5, fell into the quarry filled with rainwater when they went there in the afternoon to play. Their mother, Sridevi, a tailor, was busy at work at the time of the incident. Her husband died a few years ago. By the time, people in their area rushed to the spot, the children were found dead. - Staff Reporter

Commit suicide

KARIMNAGAR: A woman and her two daughters reportedly jumped to death in an agricultural well in Mallial village of Chandurthi mandal on Saturday.

Vemulawada CI Sanjeeva Kumar said the woman K. Manjula (23) and her daughters Sowmya (5) and Akila (3) were found dead in the well. Her husband Venkat had migrated to the Gulf in search of a job two years ago.

Manjula was reportedly disturbed at being ostracised as her sister had an inter-caste marriage. Her mother too had committed suicide a few months ago. - Staff Reporter

Activists kidnapped

KHAMMAM: CPI (Maoist) naxalites kidnapped 13 activists of the State-sponsored Salva Judum movement near Dornapal village (25 km from Chintoor in Khammam) of Chhattisgarh on Saturday.

According to reports, the activists were accommodated in the base camp run by the district administration. They left the camp in the early hours to collect paddy from Aragatta village. The Maoists, camping in the village forced the tribals to accompany them to the forests. - Staff Reporter
