Reliance gas to be first supplied in A.P.

HYDERABAD: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani made it clear on Wednesday that the gas produced in the Krishna-Godavari basin would be first supplied in Andhra Pradesh, before taking it to other places.

Talking to reporters after inaugurating an international seminar on `Exploration Geophysics', organised by the Association of Exploration Geophysicists, he declared "we are committed to Andhra Pradesh." Whatever gas produced should first benefit the local people, he said. The gas would be initially supplied to homes in smaller towns before it is brought to the State capital. Stating that there was a huge potential in the basin, he asserted that the country's mineral wealth was "under-explored" and the whole of India was "very prospective." "The Indian story in geophysics was just beginning," he said, announcing setting up of a school for geophysics and geo-sciences here jointly by the RIL and Oil and Natural Gas Commission (ONGC).

Replying to a question on increasing exploration costs, he said RIL would work towards enhancing the productivity and offset it by volumes. Asked about the possibility of RIL-ONGC sharing infrastructure, he said, "We will do whatever it takes to optimise our costs."
