Bangalore: A school team from Bangalore did it in 2004; it could happen again. Volvo India has announced the Volvo Adventure competition in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme to reward practical environment action being taken by young people in their local community. The competition culminates with conferring of Volvo Young Environmentalists Awards. This global Internet-based environmental education programme for school children aged between 10 and 16 is aimed at increasing the environmental expertise of tomorrow's decision-makers and consumers.

The initial stages of the programme are conducted entirely online and combine fun, learning and practical action for young people concerned about the environment. The www.volvoadventure.org site also contains a host of information for participants to browse through and helps school teams to network with like-minded young environmentalists from across the world. Eric Leblanc, Managing Director, Volvo India, said, "From our experience in the past four years, we know that children have more energy, concern and ideas on the way forward than we often realise. We look forward to the next set of ideas actions these young people bring."
