Science, Technology Quiz winners for national finals

Chennai : What do laser, year of physics and atom bomb have in common?

Albert Einstein was the immediate answer from one of the six teams at the final round of the Jack Kilby Science and Technology Quiz, 2006, organised by Texas Instruments here on Friday.

Ochintya Sharma of the Karnataka Quiz Association grilled the teams chosen out of 561 confirmed teams from various schools in Chennai, following a preliminary round. At the end of the seventh speed round, students from SRDF Vivekananda Vidyalaya emerged first and will participate in the national finals at New Delhi on November 14. The winners in New Delhi stand a chance to go to NASA, Houston and the Texas Instruments Advanced Semiconductor Fabrication Facility at Dallas, Texas, USA.

V. Sreevatsan and V. Prashant of the winning team will go to Delhi to participate in the national finals.

Sanjith Gopalakrishnan and K. Varun of P.S. Senior Secondary School got the second prize and Ashwath Rabindranath and Akshay Rangamani of Vidya Mandir, Royapettah, won the third. The other teams were Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, Vidya Mandir, Adyar and Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School.

David T. Hopper, Consul General of the United States in Chennai and Biswadip Mitra, Managing Director, Texas Instruments (India), gave away prizes of robotic kits, digital cameras and telescopes.
