Second phase of land for poor next month

CHENNAI: The second phase of free land distribution to the poor will begin next month.

According to an official release issued on Friday, landless agricultural families would be given 8,320 acres of Government-owned wasteland, which was not under encroachment. Small and marginal farmers would get 11,990 acres of Government-owned wasteland, which was under encroachment. Six thousand acres of wasteland would be reclaimed returned to them for cultivation.

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi would launch the second phase at Villupuram on December 17.
