Bangalore: Standards in veterinary services and animal care were lacking in the country and there was a need for a network of animal care centres, Maneka Gandhi, animal rights activist and patron of the voluntary organisation, People for Animals, said here on Saturday. Speaking to presspersons before the start of a music concert to mark the 10th anniversary of PFA and to raise funds for their activities, Ms. Gandhi said to ensure that the numbers of animals did not dwindle and that they were taken care of, there should be emphasis on tree planting and saving natural resources and overuse of pesticides should be checked. Santoor player Rahul Sharma, son of the maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma performed at the concert. Namrata Dugar, trustee of PFA, was present.
