A costly experiment

DAREDEVIL COP: Sudeep in Hubballi

Hubballi (Kannada)

Director: N. Om Prakash Rao

Cast: Sudeep, Swastik Shankar, Shobharaj, Dharma, Tarakesh Patel, Tennis Krishna, Bullet Prakash, Rakshita and Chitra Shenoy.

Hubballi is another costly experiment by director N. Om Prakash Rao. Loaded with in-your-face messages on everything from patriotism and policing to the judiciary and, of course, Kannada pride, the violent film deals with a super cop and his escapades in eliminating the family of an illegal arms dealer. Om Prakash Rao helps himself with some of the scenes from Tamil, Malayalam and Hollywood hits, particularly Mel Gibson's Lethal Weapon series. His narrative has a breathtaking pace.

The storyline is divided into two parts.

The first focusses on a young man who not only has amnesia, but also behaves like one possessed whenever he is provoked. The second part unravels the mystery of his identity and prepares us for the denouement.

Sudeep stars as the daredevil cop Ajaykumar Sarnayak who later loses his memory in this crowd pleaser.

Newcomer Vishnuvardhan's photography is pleasing. The film attempts to justify its title as the hero hails from Hubli.
