Making history in Hindi publishing

FOR THE RECORDS: Prabhat Kumar and Piyush Kumar of Prabhat Prakashan with President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

Hindi might not be his first language, but President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has made history in Hindi publishing. A best-selling author in Hindi, Dr. Kalam's books published by Prabhat Prakashan have achieved record figures in sales. Having sold 200,000 copies Dr. Kalam has added another accolade to his name.

His autobiography "Agni ki Udan" -- which traces his journey from Rameshwaram to the sprawling estate of Rashtrapati Bhavan -- has sold over 75,000 copies. A "perfect" book for young ones, it will give them a chance to know the man who has become an icon for the youth.

And for children who want to go beyond his story, "Tejawi Mann" is there to read. The purpose of this book is to help the students of India in becoming the backbone of the nation.

A prolific author, Dr. Kalam has written seven titles published by Prabhat Prakashan. While most of the books are in Hindi, there is one in English. A book for every reason and season apart from just words of wisdom, there are books on more technical aspects.

"Mere Sapno Ka Bharat" is one such book. The book talks about the important roles played by different sections of society to make India a superpower.

The book is considered a must for college and engineering students.

The other books by Dr. Kalam published by Prabhat Prakashan are "Hum Honge Kamyab", "Hamare Path Pradarshak", "Kya Hain Kalam?" and "Guiding Soul". -- Mandira Nayar
