No stopping India's gold rush

BANGALORE: India probably never had it so good. With a whopping 120 gold, 138 silver and 126 bronze, the Indian contingent accumulated a total of 384 medals after three days of action in the 14th Asian Masters athletic championship at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday.

Japan with 38 gold and Sri Lanka with 36 gold will fight it out for the second spot.

Daisy Victor in the shot-put event for women over-75 putted 6.45 metres while Sumiko Kodama of Japan in the 70-plus category had 8.58 metres. Betty D'Silva, a Physical Education Director from Goa won the 40-plus shot put event with a 8.48 metres effort. Betty had incidentally claimed silver in the javelin throw event on Thursday.
