Quality paddy seeds sought

ALAPPUZHA: "The Uma and Jyothi paddy seeds distributed by the National Seeds Corporation to farmers in Kuttanad have failed to germinate," Kisan Janata Alappuzha district president Veliyanad Mathachan has said.

In a statement here, Mr. Mathachan said farmers under the Neelamperoor krishi bhavan who sowed the seeds in the Kozhichal South fields found that the seeds did not germinate.

He said similar incidents were reported from other parts of Kuttanad also. The situation in Kuttanad was grave and the Government should take steps to distribute quality seeds to farmers, Mr. Mathachan said.
