Violence in Bangladesh

DHAKA: At least four persons were killed and 60 wounded in violence as the crippling nationwide blockade continued for the second day amid anxious countdown to Chief Election Commissioner Justice Aziz' exit from the office.

The controversial CEC is likely to take a decision on Wednesday, a Commissioner in the E.C., Justice Mahfuzur Rahman, told reporters on Tuesday.

But speculation is rife whether Mr. Aziz would go on long leave or quit.

The Awami League-led 14-party combine, that has enforced the third spell of blockade since Monday, said the agitation would continue until the Election Commission is reconstituted.
