CHENNAI : Toppers of an inter-collegiate oratorical contest on Indian philosophy were presented the Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal rolling trophy on Sunday. Revathi Shankaran of Women's Christian College and teammate Malini Shankaran bagged the trophy at the valedictory of the five-day mahotsavam marking the 89th jayanthi (birth anniversary) of Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Mahaswamigal, the 35th Shankaracharya, Sringeri Sharada Peetham. At the function organised by Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation at Meenakshi College, five students of the Madras Sanskrit College were also awarded scholarships for their course in shastras. B.N. Srikrishna, former Supreme Court judge, honoured D.Narayana Sharma for his contribution to the study and teaching of Vedanta. Citing from the Upanishads, Mr. Srikrishna spoke about the importance of a guru in spiritual life. He also received the first copy of the video compact disc on the life of the acharya, released at the function. V.R.Gowrishankar, administrator of Sri Sringeri Shankar Math, launched the VCDs. R. Krishnan, managing trustee of the Sri Vidyatheertha Foundation and L.Narayanan, trustee of the foundation also participated.
