TIRUPUR: A lorry and a State Transport Corporation bus rammed each other on Uthukuli Road and both the drivers refused to take their vehicles further on Monday. Following the accident, traffic was also hit on the busy State Bank of India Road for nearly half-an-hour.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides. After intervention by the police, the traffic was cleared. The shrinking of road space and delay in completing the construction of a storm water drain on one side of the road was blamed for this accident. The construction of drainage for a small stretch began a several months ago, but it did not progress further after dumping the rock and debris on the road, sources said.
