Centre for garment workers planned to be set up in Bellary

Foundation stone for the centre to be laid by this month end

It would have state-of-the art machinery to train those already working in readymade garment units

BELLARY: B. Sriramulu, Minister for Tourism and Textiles, said that a well-equipped centre for training in readymade garments would be set up in the city soon at an estimated cost of Rs. 7.5 crore.

Mr. Sriramulu was launching the Suvarna Kayaka Udyog Shikshana Yojana, job-guarantee training programme for educated unemployed youth, at the auditorium of the Bellary District Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Saturday.

The Minister said the foundation stone for the centre would be laid at a five-acre plot at Nallacheruvu before the end of this month and the building would be ready in six months.

The training centre would have state-of-the-art machineries to train people already engaged in making readymade garment. He said was trying to get the long-pending apparel park set up in the city.

Potential untapped

Babulal of Munoth Apparels stressed the need for the garment industry in Bellary to take a big leap to cope with demands and trends of the global market.

There was scope and entrepreneur skill was available which would make it possible if all manufacturers of readymade garment and the Government joined hands.

Association president, and Chandrashekar Choudhary, chamber secretary, spoke.

Anil Uppin, Joint Director of Industries and Commerce, welcomed the gathering.
