Free education for children

NEW DELHI: Over 100 children aged between three and five years living in the Trilokpuri Rehabilitation Colony here will be provided free education from January 1, 2007.

Supported by America-based Target Sourcing Services, Nehru Bal Samiti will conduct pre-nursery, nursery and kindergarten classes for the children at Bal Vikas Vidyalaya for a period of one year. Admissions to the classes will be on a first-come-first-served basis.

Delhi institute selected for project

NEW DELHI: The South Delhi Polytechnic for Women has been selected to work with Britain's Blackburn College in the field of fashion and textiles. The institute is one of three colleges selected under the U.K.-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) Project, said Cultural Affairs Minister and British Council Regional Director Rod Pryde addressing the 39th convocation ceremony of the polytechnic earlier this week.

The two-year project will include academic and cultural exchange, staff and students' exchange programmes to develop the job sector in both countries.

New branch of library opened

NEW DELHI: Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ram Babu Sharma on Saturday opened the 25th branch of Hardayal Municipal Public Library at Brahmpuri in Shahdara here.

Mr. Sharma said the new branch of the library had been opened for the benefit of people living in the Capital's trans-Yamuna areas. "The main building of this library in Old Delhi was constructed in 1916 and later the maintenance of this library was handed over to the Delhi Municipal Committee. Thereafter, other branches of this library were opened in various parts of the city," he added.

NEW DELHI: Prof. Shailendra Kumar of Delhi University launched the EMPI Digital Library National Convention's official website www.empidlnc.org at the Knowledge and Learning Research Centre here earlier this week.

Prof. Kumar read out his paper on "Dynamics of Information from the Village to the Research Laboratory" intended for those interested in reducing the "digital divide" between the rural and urban populations and the illiterates and academicians.
