NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said the Congress would be voted out by the people in the forthcoming Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections due early next year.

Addressing women workers of the party on the occasion of "Veerangana Divas" organised by the BJP Delhi Pradesh Mahila Morcha at the party headquarters here, Dr. Vardhan said the people of Delhi as well as the rest of the country were very angry with the Congress for its "anti-people, anti-livelihood and anti-democratic policies''.

Lauding the efforts of the women workers, Dr. Vardhan said the BJP was the only party in which the women participated in public movements with full force.

"The BJP had initiated a `jail bharo' movement in protest against the sealing and demolition drive in Delhi in which hundreds of women workers went to jail," said the BJP leader, adding that the party workers were prepared to go to jail any number of times for the people's cause.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj said if the women workers had to go to jail for the welfare of the people of the country, they would not be found wanting.

"The women workers, who are otherwise involved in taking care of their families, will come out of their homes and fill the prisons if needed," she said.

Mahila Morcha president Vishakha Shailani said: "By filling up the jails during the sealing and demolition drives, the BJP's women workers have proved that they can give a befitting reply to the atrocities committed by the Congress."

The function, which was also attended by former Member of Parliament Anita Arya, started with patriotic songs and offering of turbans to Ms. Swaraj and Dr. Vardhan. The two leaders also presented "angvastra" to the Mahila Morcha workers who had gone to jail during the sealing and demolition drives in the Capital.
