Handicrafts exhibition in Tambaram

TAMBARAM: The southern suburbs might be a better choice for people to live, considering cleaner air and water when compared to the city. But there also a flip side, especially when it comes to shopping at swanky malls like those in Nungambakkam or the pavement shops in bustling T. Nagar.

But the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation has come to Tambaram with a ten-day exhibition of handicrafts, where products range from Rs.10 to Rs.2 lakh. The exhibition is on till December 10 at the Surana Thanga Mahal on Rajaji Road, near the National Theatre.

Officials of Poompuhar said the main purpose of the exhibition was to reach out to people in the southern suburbs of Chennai. Officials said such exhibitions also provided artisans the much-needed platform to showcase their work and sell them too. Handicrafts on display are Panchaloha idols, Tanjore paintings, furniture, jute products, furnishings, paintings, sarees etc.
