VISAKHAPATNAM: Garlanding of statues and processions marked the 50th death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar observed by various organisations and dalit bodies on Wednesday. The Andhra Pradesh Dalit Rights Struggle Committee, affiliated to the CPI, garlanded Ambedkar's statue near LIC building and took out a procession to the Collectorate.. CPI MLA Demudu, former MLA Manam Anjaneyulu, CPI district secretary J.V. Satyanarayana and struggle committee general-secretary B. Venkata Rao participated. In VSP, employees observed two-minute silence. Plant GM (T & A) M.V.R. Sarma garlanded the statue of the late leader. Among others, GM (CP and C) P.C. Das, DGM (P) T.K. Chand and INTUC general secretary Manthri Rajasekar participated. In HZL, General Manager K. Siva Prasad garlanded the statue. NTPC Simhadri project GM R. Venkateswaran garlanded the statue. Andhra University, Visakhapatnam Port Trust and Dock Labour Board SC/ST Officers Welfare Association and Urban Zilla BC Sangam organised programmes.
