Bangalore: When both parents are visually impaired, they are naturally anxious that their children should be born with normal eyesight. For Ravikumar, who operates an STD booth in the city and his wife Devammma, the shock came a bit later. Their first-born has normal vision. Bu their second daughter, now three years, was born with cataract. The distraught parents approached Narayana Nethrayala, an eye hospital and Post Graduate Institute of Ophthalmology. Paediatric ophthalmologist K. Vasuda conducted the surgery on the girl. The child's bandages were removed on Wednesday and now she is being assessed for a condition called "lazy eye," which is common in such cases. The surgery was conducted free of cost.
