Man hacked to death

Police suspect gang rivalry to be the reason for the killing

BANGALORE: A man with criminal antecedents was hacked to death by a six-member gang in MICO Layout police station limits on Wednesday.

The police gave his name as Velu (29), a resident of Mahalingeshwara Bande in Adugodi. There were criminal cases against him. He was also accused of stealing crushed stones dumped on roadsides for road repair works, they said.

The police said that around 11 p.m., six men who came in a van had dragged Velu out of a goods vehicle on Bannerghatta Road, off Dairy Circle. They had attacked him with swords and choppers and killed him.

Valuables stolen

Thieves made away with Rs. 30,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at Rs. 1.5 lakh from a call centre employee's house in Bharathinagar police station limits on Wednesday.

The police said the incident had taken place between 5.15 p.m. and 6.15 p.m. at Tanveer Khan's house on Cock Burn Road.

After locking the house, Khan had kept the key in a "secret place" in the compound known only to him and his brother Kizar, and gone to work.

Around 6.15 p.m., Kizar returned home and found that the house had been ransacked and cash and valuables were missing, the police said. On a complaint by Khan, the Bharathinagar Police have registered a case.
