Krishnagiri : Sarva Shiksha Abiyan (SSA) has launched an innovative programme to improve the content knowledge of teachers handling activity-based learning (ABL) in Krishnagiri district. More than 5,000 primary and upper primary teachers would benefit under this programme. Initially, the programme has been launched as a test drive in more than 100 schools in the district.
Card system
In a statement here on Tuesday, the Assistant District Project Coordinator of SSA, Anbu, said that following its success activity-based learning system (the card system) was extended to all schools in the district. A total of 3,773 primary school teachers were trained under this new concept. The system played a pivotal role in improving the quality of education in schools. Students were being given individual attention under the ABL initiative. Under this programme students could learn at their own pace.
Module
The module was built on the methodology of individual attention and level-specific activities tailored to suit each child. Under the initiative, the teaching and learning environment was made interesting to ensure that the children learned through various activities. The availability of simple reading materials that children could use on their own was crucial in the improvement and sustenance of their skills, he said.
